After graduating from Fordham University with a master's of science in secondary education in 2011, Francis began his career in Student Affairs at Stony Brook University as a resident director, where he developed an interest in student preparedness through his experiences with Super Storm Sandy and the profound ways the storm impacted the university's staff and students. After almost a decade of managing incidents through various roles in student housing (including at University of Oregon), Francis now serves as the director of advocacy at Oregon State University. Francis is a member of CERT, a Red Cross Volunteer, a representative for Student Affairs on the Oregon State University Incident Management Team, and a doctoral student at Portland State University researching how institutions can improve preparedness outcomes for college students. Outside of his work in higher education, Francis is a part-time counselor for the National Suicide Lifeline.
